On 7th of September, the school of mechanical engineering organized and carried out a mental health education lecture for the 2023 graduate students in room 214, GeWu building, Tunxi road campus. This lecture was given by Mrs. Jin Hou, a national third-level psychological counselor and graduate student life advisor of our school, and was attended by all the 2023 graduate students.

Thislecture started from three aspects: what is mental health, the meaning of mental health and how to maintain mental health. It focused on the topic of "mental health" and put forward the concept of modern mental health. Maslow's ten criteria for assessing mental health are quoted to help graduate students understand their own mental state.

Later, Mrs. Jing Hou quoted Maslow’s hierarchy of needs theory diagram and used cases to describe the various confusions and problems students may face during graduate study, such as scientific research pressure, interpersonal relationships, etc. This may in turn affect students’ physical health, academic performance, social interactions, etc. Based on the characteristics of graduate students, four suggestions are given: Firstly, correctly understand and evaluate yourself; Secondly, do a good job in emotion management; Thirdly, deal with stress appropriately; Lastly, scientifically formulate career plans.

This lecture aims to help new graduate students raise their awareness of the importance of mental health, enhance graduate students’ safety awareness and start their postgraduate study with a rational, peaceful, positive and optimistic healthy attitude.
