Mechanical engineering， a traditional dominant discipline of the Hefei University of Technology， especially in the automobile industry, has a strong influence in the field of the national machinery industry. The discipline of mechanical engineering ranked22nd in the 2012 subject evaluation of China, with the overall evaluation was B +, ranking the top 20 % in the country in the fourth round of the national subject evaluation in 2016. After more than 70 years, a number of scientific research bases with important supporting roles and distinctive characteristics have been built, including National and Local Joint Engineering Research Center for Automotive Technology and Equipment， Digital Design and Manufacture Key Laboratory of Anhui Province，Key Laboratory of Green Design and Manufacturing of Mechanical Industry，Anhui Research Center for Automotive Technology & Equipment Engineering，Automotive NVH Engineering and Technology Research Center Anhui Province，andAutomotive Automation Equipment Engineering (Technology) Research Center of Anhui Province.

In the past five years, the School of Mechanical Engineering has been approved 18 projects and subjects of the National Key Research and Development Programme, and more than 70 projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, including the National Outstanding Youth Fund, the Key Support Project of the Joint Fund for Regional Innovation, the National Outstanding Youth Fund, and the Face-up Fund, etc. Meanwhile, the school has also been approved 18 military projects, such as the pre-research of the land navigation, and the pre-research of the equipment of the Ministry of Armaments, Armaments Commission and Equipment Development. The research team of the school also received more than 480 projects commissioned by enterprises. The above funding totaled about 210 million yuan. In addition, the school has hosted or undertaken 5 international academic conferences; published more than 1,000 academic papers in various academic journals around the world, issued more than 10 books and textbooks, and received more than 780 authorities of national invention patents, more than 300 authorities of software copyrights, 4 authorities of the international invention patents (3 U.S. patents, 1 Canadian patent). Besides, the teams of the school have also participated in the formulation of 2 national standards, and 1 industry standard. More than 20 national or provincial and ministerial scientific and technological awards have been gained above second-class level, including 5 first-class awards and 6 second-class awards of provincial and ministerial level as first affiliation. Besides, agreatnumber of original research works have been popularized and applied to solve the major needs of the national industry, the cutting-edge disciplines, and cross-cutting technological problems, which promoted the technological progress of the industry, and gained significant economic and social benefits.
