On June 15, 2023, the School invited Professor Xiaodong Yang from Harbin Institute of Technology to visit the School for exchange and visit, including giving a report. Professor Shunhua Chen, director of the Department of Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering, presided over the meeting, and some professors, young teachers and graduate students from the school participated in the exchange.
Professor Xiaodong Yang gave a wonderful report to the participating teachers and students on the topic of "Research on Numerical Simulation and High-speed Camera Observation of EDM Process". Professor Xiaodong Yang introduced the research experience of his research team in the mechanism of EDM, and described the molecular dynamics simulation of the discharge etching process, the multi-physics coupling simulation of the discharge channel, the integrated simulation of the discharge pit/discharge channel and the inter-electrode Research progress in high-speed camera observation of discharge phenomena. The participating students discussed and exchanged ideas with Professor Xiaodong Yang on issues such as the controllable mechanism of discharge channels in EDM.
Professor Xiaodong Yang, Professor Shunhua Chen and other teachers and students held a symposium with the theme of "Research Status of Amorphous Alloy EDM". The two parties conducted in-depth discussions on the development status and future prospects of amorphous alloy EDM processing mechanism and surface properties.
Xiaodong Yang is a professor and doctoral supervisor at the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering at Harbin Institute of Technology, a visiting researcher/senior visiting scholar at the University of Tokyo, and a visiting scholar at Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology. He is currently the executive director of the Special Processing Branch of the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society, a member of the National Technical Committee for Standardization of Special Processing Machine Tools, a full member of the Japan Society of Precision Engineering, and a member of the Japan Electrical Processing Society. Professor Yang’s main research directions are advanced special machining new technologies, basic research and technology of electric discharge machining, etc. He has published more than 100 related papers and edited or participated in the editing of more than 10 special machining-related monographs and textbooks. In recent years, Professor Yang has presided over the National Natural Science Foundation of China projects, Heilongjiang Province international cooperation projects, etc., and participated in the 863 project, major national projects, etc.
