The Department of Mechatronic Engineering of Hefei University of Technology is one of the earliest institutions engaged in Mechatronics teaching and research in China,which was established in 1983. In 1984, the undergraduate program of Mechanical and Electronic Engineering was established, followed by the authorization to grant Master degrees in 1996 and doctoral degrees in 2000. Its school-running characteristics are "machine-oriented, electromechanical combination, and close connection between theory and practice".

At present, the Department of Mechatronic Engineering has 20 faculty members, including 9 professors and 10 associate professors. Among them, 14 hold doctoral degrees, and 3 are currently pursuing their doctorates. With the strong support from the school and the college,the systematical experimental conditions of Electromechanical modules have been established. The laboratory area is about 1200 square meters, and more than 200 sets of various experimental equipment can be used for the verification experiments, design experiments and comprehensive experiments of the basic courses, specialized courses and related elective courses required by the mechanical and electrical modules.
